Nice Work and Wanton Words

Eve's Big Bang - a collection of five erotic stories
On a hot summer day, two strangers on a train share an unexpected brief horny encounter. The journey to the office will never be the same again. When Adrian walks away he can’t get the cool sexy redhead out of his mind but he’s already late for work and it’s the first day in his new job. He has to make a good impression. But fate has a wicked sense of humour and when Adrian meets Alice once more he soon discovers she has plans for him that far exceed his wildest fantasies.

She was leaning forward, a hint of cleavage on show. She had scribbled a note which she gestured for him to take.  Hands shaking, he took it, his fingers brushing her red painted nails.  Reading the words written clearly before him, his eyes widened in disbelief. He looked up at her again, his expression questioning.  She nodded. Glancing once more at the handwritten note, he removed his suit jacket and carefully laid it across his knees. Then, hands shaking, he slipped them beneath the cover of the jacket and unzipped his flies, grasping his already hard cock which was begging for relief.  It felt strange, illicit and very exciting.

This extract is from my story, Nice Work, which appears in e-book Eve's Big Bang published by Xcite.

Guest post: Zara Stoneley and Riding High

Today's guest post is from writer Zara Stoneley.  I love the book cover of Riding High.....Over to you, Zara.

Hi Elizabeth, Thanks for having me here!

They say you can choose your friends but not your family… and there is a lot in this book about families, and how the actions of our parents can affect the way we live and the decisions we make.

I’ve always been very interested in the nature versus nurture debate – does who we are (genetically), or how we are brought up have the greatest influence on us? My personal feeling is that both play a part, and the balance depends on a lot of factors such as our friends, associates and the major events that happen in our lives.

In ‘Riding High’ Saul and Roisin have both been affected, in different ways, by their backgrounds. They have issues to confront, and unless they do their relationship won’t be going anywhere.

I guess my message is that you can’t run away from who you are - all you can do is learn and adapt, and take responsibility for your own actions. And at the end of the day, whatever our family does, we still (usually), deep down inside ourselves love them and want everything to work out right.

Riding High

‘Have wild crazy monkey sex with the first man you bump into.’ Roisin Grant hadn’t intended to follow her best friend’s advice – but, sometimes, what you expect from life and what you get don’t match up. She never expected her husband would have a stash of home-made porn movies, with him in the starring role, or that he would die and leave her bankrupt. And she never expected to be faced with asset-stripper Saul Mathews and a choice. Walk away from her home and equestrian business, or call his bluff and help him deliver riding lessons of an altogether different kind.

An erotic novel with mixed themes including m/f, menage, sex in public and voyeurism.

Excerpt from Riding High

She was glaring, her whole body tensed for a fight, but he knew she believed him deep down. She knew. ‘And what was last night about, then? A time-filler, or does it turn you on shagging the person you’re just about to –’ she paused ‘– shaft in another way?’

‘Phew, that’s below the belt. That’s not fair, and you know it.’

‘Do I? What do I know, Saul? It seems like you’re the one with all the answers.’

‘Last night was just – it just happened, but believe me if I’d known who you were I would never have even stopped for a drink. It was just bad timing, or good timing if you like.’ He could feel the corner of his mouth tip and suddenly she looked like she might hit him.

‘Oh fuck off.’ She flicked the horse’s reins over its head and it shied away, almost bumping into him. Which he couldn’t blame her for.

‘Look, I’m really sorry about this, but I’m not sorry about last night.’ He stepped up closer, met her glare, because it seemed important that she believed him. Last night hadn’t been about business. Last night had been – something else.

‘Stop saying you’re bloody sorry, unless it’s going to change anything.’

‘It’s not going to change anything.’

Her eyes were bright and she was gnawing at her lip, but not in the “come and shag” me manner of last night. Which made him feel a shit. Again. ‘Look, I’ll go through the documents with you. That’s why I’m here. And if you can come up with some kind of proposal to pay a proper rent on the place then I’ll listen.’

‘I need to sort my horse.’ She flicked behind the horse with the whip; it stepped forward automatically, brushing past him, leaving a fine coating of sweat-covered hair on his arm. Fine, so she was spoiling for a fight. But he didn’t want to fight. Not this time.

He followed slowly behind as she walked toward the stables, studying the property on auto-pilot. Assessing was something that was second nature to him, even if now it didn’t seem right. When he’d pulled into the yard he’d only had time for a quick look round, taking in the tidy but tired air of the place, the look that said it would cost a fortune to update. He grimaced; there was a good-sized house, which he was sure would be in a state, but there were plenty of people around with money who wanted the genuine article, a country estate. Chic, not shabby. The riding stables didn’t have much going for it as a business proposition, but the property, the land, did. Which was why he’d bought it. At a knockdown price that he’d thought had meant he couldn’t go wrong.

His gaze drifted back to the pert bum and he had a horrible feeling that something, or someone, was about to screw up his plans.

Public readings of erotica

Following on from yesterday’s post about hearing erotic stories read aloud reminded me that I’m reading at an event shortly.  I have a love-hate relationship with this process, finding the experience both nerve-wracking and liberating at the same time.  It is so different to giving a private reading and when you are confronted with an audience in a public space, you never quite know how they will respond.   Of course, you can’t please all the people, as the saying goes, and it’s always tricky to decide what to read.  It has to be new, as you may have some of the same people in the audience as at a previous reading.  The story or extract shouldn’t be too long, because you don’t want your audience to lose interest and become bored.

Stories with humour seem to work best, I’ve found, and with realistic characters and dialogue.  Some readers have commented that they can often identify with the people in my stories, and recognise characters and situations, which is a lovely compliment.  Most of what I write is inspired by actual events and personal experiences.

I’d love to hear from other writers who give readings – have you had any enlightening, amusing (or not so funny) experiences of reading in public?

Aural sex

Already writers are forging new earning pathways, selling advertising space on their websites, and selling writing courses, advice and other services. The internet simply provides a bigger shop window in which to operate.  The products themselves are not new.

What is new is the way that technological change brings the mechanism for e-books to become interactive experiences, by adding photos, video clips, sound and music, so they are no longer pure text.

I’m just visualising an interactive version of 50 Shades… or would that simply be a romantic soft porn film?
Of course, when you see something on a screen, it can diminish the picture we have created in our heads of the story we are reading.  Our imagination can often be many times more erotic than someone else’s construction of how the characters look and speak.

For me, hearing the right, sexy voice read a story aloud, (but via a machine and perhaps with added sound effects), while I lie with my eyes closed in a darkened room or a scented bath, can enhance the experience. A kind of kinky Radio 4.  Hmmmm……….

Maybe that would be a great new product for writers – offering a service to read a story down the phone line at a pre-arranged time to clients.  It would have more immediacy and intimacy than an audio tape.

What do you think?

Bel Anderson Guest Post: Sexy Stories

I'm delighted that today's guest post is from erotica writer Bel Anderson...

I started writing erotica this year after a couple of years of having short stories published in women's magazines. I had no idea that there was such a market for erotica and so many publishers! A friend of mine commented recently that she's surprised I didn't do it years ago as I was always the one who had to explain smutty jokes to the rest of my circle of friends at school... That's probably what you get from being allowed (encouraged) to read Jackie Collins and Jilly Cooper from a young age! (Thanks, Mum!)

I have discovered that I absolutely love writing erotica. It's so liberating to be able to write what I like without dampening down the heat or resorting to painful euphemisms. I find that most of the time I'm grinning away while I'm writing!
As far as having a favourite erotic story goes, strictly speaking I don't have one, although I've really enjoyed a lot of the short stories I've read so far. I find it a challenge to just sit back and enjoy what I'm reading if it's a genre I write - I almost feel I should be taking notes!

Jane EyreMost of the books I find erotic aren't strictly erotica at all. In fact, at the mention of the word 'erotic', the first book I think of is Jane Eyre. I've been mulling this over a lot since Elizabeth invited me to do this post, and what I find immensely erotic is Edward Rochester's desire for Jane. He knows he shouldn't marry her, but he also knows it's the only way he's going to get her - and what he plainly wants is to crush her bird-like frame in his manly arms and ravish her.  (Oh, and what a ravishing it would be on his part - although she may be rather more reserved!) He wants her to stay with him even after their failed wedding and would take her as his lover if she'd allow it. There's so much smouldering passion beneath his heavy brow and he definitely has a need to dominate. If Jane wasn't such a good little girl and Charlotte Bronte hadn't been a good Victorian, the story could have been very different! Reading it as a young teen, I was disappointed (following my previous diet of Collins and Cooper) to have discovered so little about the moment they finally got it together. I wanted to know how it felt to be made love to by Mr Rochester. Ah well, I suppose that's what the imagination is for!
The erotica I've written so far has been published by Xcite Books and is available on Xcite's website and also on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=ntt_athr_dp_sr_2?_encoding=UTF8&field-author=Bel%20Anderson&search-alias=digital-text
At the moment I'm working on another erotic short and also on an erotic novella, so there's plenty to grin over the keyboard about!
Please pop across and visit my blog : http://belandersonwrites.wordpress.com/ .  It's a new blog and I haven't quite got to grips with it yet, but I'd love to 'meet' you!
Thanks so much for having me, Elizabeth!

Lucy Felthouse Guest Post: Sexy Stories - Fiction That Turns Me On

Today's guest post in my Sexy Stories series is from Lucy Felthouse, talking about the fiction that turns her on....

Fiction That Turns Me On by Lucy Felthouse
One of the best erotic books I've read this year is That Filthy Book, by Lily Harlem and Natalie Dae. It's an erotic romance about a married couple. The woman, Karen, read a filthy book full of sex tips and positions, and it's given her ideas. Very kinky ideas. When the two of them go away for their wedding anniversary without their children, Karen decides to use some of the naughty things to help spice up their sex life. She loves Jacob deeply, but they've fallen into a rut. Jacob, luckily, is more than happy to help Karen out with her dirty fantasies, and this starts off a sexy whirlwind adventure for the two of them and brings them closer together.
I loved everything about this book. The plot itself is brilliant, unique and engaging. The characters are fantastic, and the fact that they're a married couple that have been together a while just made the whole thing so much more real. For such a filthy book (it really is filthy), it's also really heartwarming when Karen and Jacob discover things about one another and their relationship. And the things they get up to... well! Let's just say this isn’t a read for the fainthearted. It's a seriously sexy, edgy read and one that will stay with you for a long time after reading. This is proven by the fact that I read this several months ago and have probably read 50 or 60 books since, and yet I still remember That Filthy Book. It's well-written, kinky, erotic and romantic. What's not to love?
As a writer, I do find that I can't just read a book. I don't do it on purpose, but I analyse things as I go along with an editor's and proofreader's hat on. I spot repetition, clunky sentences, spelling mistakes, etc. Unfortunately, if there is too much of this type of thing, it pulls me out of the story and ruins my enjoyment. Luckily, That Filthy Book is well-written and has been well-edited and therefore I was able to enjoy it for what it is—top-notch erotic romance

Thanks so much for having me here, Elizabeth. I've enjoyed dishing the dirt on my favourite book. Don't forget to buy yours:

But will her feelings be reciprocated?
Something in Common
Nerd and amateur photographer Justine is partaking of one of her favourite pastimes—visiting a historical site—when she bumps into Amber. Little Miss Goody Two Shoes

Barbara Cardy Guest Post: Sexy Stories - Best of both Worlds

The Mammoth Book of Erotic Confessions: The Largest Ever Collection of Intimated Admissions by Real Women and Men (Mammoth Books)Today's guest post is from writer and editor Barbara Cardy, who was hugely supportive of my erotica when I was just starting out in the genre.  Barbara edits some fabulous anthologies and here explains what she likes and why in a piece of erotic fiction.

One of my favourite stories has to be 'Best of Both Worlds' that I selected for the Mammoth Book of Erotic Confessions.  It's an absolute cracker and encapsulates so many titillating erotic genres; humiliation, submission, cuckoldery, corporate punishment, a master and being 'forced' to masturbate – and all for a wife not attending to her husband's domestic needs.  Jolly erotic and splendidly un-PC!  Ava's sexual urges aren't being satisfied by her husband and she's not keeping on top of the household chores so he sends her off to a Master with a letter listing her misdemeanours.  He's suitably appalled as well and gives her 14 of the best with a cane, and of course she has to count them out!  Tears spill over, but pleasure is there too and orgasm comes quickly to placate our poor heroine.

If any of your readers would like to do a 'Look Inside' here is a link to my Amazon Author Pages:  Amazon.co.uk  http://tinyurl.com/d7gy3lg  And for Amazon.com it'shttp://tinyurl.com/crwsh8h

I love erotic stories where there is power-play.  That doesn't necessarily mean whipping and spanking, but also scenarios where one person is naked and the other fully clothed, or when a prude is coerced into doing something pervy against their initial judgement.  All the pieces I use in my anthologies in the first instance must be good stories, but I love humour in an erotic story and I want to be slightly shocked too.

In January I have three new 120k-word (over an inch thick if they were a paperback) eBook titles coming out, again on the 'Confessions' theme: One straight, one lesbian and one gay.  Already available are 36 mini eBooks of short stories that I finished earlier this year.  I'm hopeful that these will be bundled into three substantial collections shortly as it represents better value to the reader, but as it is, they are under a £1 and under a $, so worth downloading for a quickie.

Most of my work is written anthologies, but I also have a photographic collection of male nude photography - a hell of a chore to select those images as you can imagine - but a definite hen-night staple if ever there was one! I was delighted that it was a finalist in the book category at the Erotic Awards 2012.

Betty Herbert Guest Post: Sexy Stories

I hope you all enjoy the second in my new series of guest posts, in which I invite writers to discuss fiction that turns them on.  Today it's over to Betty Herbertthe author of The 52 Seductions...
Before I started writing about sex, I would have run across a dual carriageway to avoid erotica.
But then, I am an odd sort of a sex writer anyway. I started my blog because, after ten years of marriage, I wasn’t having much sex, and I wasn’t sure if this was such a bad thing.
Even though I did end up embracing my inner goddess (oh my, EL James, I couldn’t resist that one), I did it through embracing sex in its flawed, fumbling glory.
Nowadays, I find it hard to take off my writerly hat when I read erotica. Too often, it’s just not real enough for me – too perfect, too smooth, too serious. I always did have a problem with suspension of disbelief.
FingersmithTherefore, I like to find my erotica buried amongst stories, rather than leaping out from every page. I’m a huge fan of Anaïs Nin and A N Roquelaure, but my favourite wouldn’t see herself as an erotic writer at all.

Like many straight women, I turn to Sarah Waters again and again for my thrills. I think it’s because I am absorbed so completely by the stories – my favourite is Fingersmith – and so the sex packs an extra punch.
I also like the way her books leave me space to fantasise. And who isn’t partial to the odd corset now and then?

Interview with Kay Jaybee

Today I'm delighted to be hosting the fabulous Kay Jaybee's blog tour.  Not only that, Kay kindly agreed to take some time out to answer some of my questions.

How and why did you start writing erotica?
I started writing erotica entirely by accident seven years ago. My youngest child had just started full time school, and I was sat in a cafe (I am always in a cafe somewhere- even if only spiritually!), day dreaming, when an idea for a story came into my head that was so risqué it shocked me.  However, it wouldn’t budge from my head, and I had a compulsion to write it down, which I did onto the only paper to hand- a cream napkin.

That very first story, after I’d built up the courage to send it to a publisher, became my first entry into an erotic anthology (Lips Like Sugar, Cleis Press) Since then it has been like a drug- I can’t get enough. I also can’t quite believe how lucky I’ve been-  for since that initial tale, I have written over 70 short stories, 3 novellas, and third novels, the latest of which, Making Him Wait (Sweetmeats Press) is just out.  An extract is below.....

Maddie Templeton has always been an unconventional artist. Themes of submission and domination pulse through her erotic artwork, and she’s happily explored these lustful themes both on and off the canvas.
But, when Theo Hunter enters her life, she is presented with a new challenge. Maddie sets out to test his resolve as she teases, torments and toys with him. But, as Maddie drives Theo to breaking point, she soon becomes unsure whether her own resolve will hold out!
At the same time, Maddie must put on the exhibition of a lifetime. As the hottest gallery in town clamours for her best work, Maddie pushes her models harder and higher until they are physically, sexually and emotionally exhausted. Will Maddie’s models continue to submit to her, or will she push them too far? And will she be ready for the exhibition in time?
The only way to find out is to wait and see…and the waiting only makes it sweeter!

Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I get my ideas from everywhere and anywhere. I like to people watch, to listen to every lyric in a song, to consider why a hairbrush has been left on the floor not the dressing table... Literally anything can set my imagination buzzing!
What’s your biggest writing achievement?
That’s a really hard question! Every single time I get a story accepted by a publisher, be it long or short, I feel a sense of massive achievement- I swear I’m addicted to the feeling of receiving an email that says ‘yes, we want your story!’
If pushed though, I guess it has to be having both Xcite and Sweetmeats approach me to write for them, rather than me beg and plead for them to take my work.
In the case of Xcite it was to write the novella A Sticky Situation for their Secret Library range, which turned out to be my best selling piece, and an Amazon UK top 5 seller in their erotic chart.   Then, when Kojo Black approached me to write for him and Sweetmeats, first with a novella (The Circus) and then a novel, Making Him Wait, I was blown away- I’ve been very fortunate to have people invest so much time and trouble in my work.

Do you have a favourite erotica genre?
I love to write stories which involve tying up, spanking, bondage, submission and dominance- simply because there is so much scope in them. Not only do I enjoy being able to include the different objects required for such stories, ropes, cuffs (or paintbrushes in my latest novel!), but the challenge of exploring the huge range of quite complicated emotions that come from the characters involved.

What are you working on at the moment?
As well as promoting Making Him Wait, I am currently finishing off a new novella for Xcite, marketing the re-launch of my first ever book, The Collector, and plotting and planning novel number four.

Which erotica writers do you enjoy reading?
I am very picky when it comes to reading erotica, but you have to go a long way to beat KD Grace, Shanna Germain, Donna George Storey or Lily Harlem- each has a very different style- but all of them write with excellence and intelligence.

How do you relax when you’re not working?
I’m never not working- I’m a workaholic- I wouldn’t know how to relax- wish I did!

If you were not a writer, what other career would you like to pursue?
I trained to be an archaeologist back when I was a student, and if I hadn’t picked up the pen, I would have gone back to picking up the trowel once my children were big enough for me to leave all day- maybe I still will!

What’s the most useful writing tip you’ve ever been given?
The best piece of advice I was ever given came from a writer friend who kindly read through one of my non erotic stories some years ago. It was very early in my career, and I hadn’t realised how much I was using, and re-using, the same few words and phrases- he kindly pointed it out. Bless him, he thought I’d be offended, but it was excellent advice, and now I keep a list of words I have a habit of repeating so I can check I haven’t over ‘littled’ or ‘huged’ or ‘longed’!!
Thank you!

Behind Kissing Velvet

He never kissed - not in the usual sense.  Not on the mouth, at least.  He said there were other ways to express how you felt about a woman.  He called it kissing velvet.  The velvet was her skin.  He thought it was smooth and soft, deliciously sensual.  The kiss? Well, that was the whip making contact with her velvet skin.

Kissing Velvet is about half way through my collection of the same title, and the last blog post on these stories.  It is also one of the stories I most enjoyed writing and exploring; a kinky, romantic tale.

When hassled commuter Kym meets enigmatic Charles Gunn on a crowded train, their conversations about erotic books and films soon lead to something far more intimate.  Kym has often fantasised about a BDSM adventure, but will the reality be too intense for her to handle?

Chantel C Guest Post: Sexy Stories

Well, I'm delighted to kick off my new series of guest posts, in which I invite writers to discuss fiction that turns them on, with Chantel C.   Over to you Chantel - and thanks so much for being my first guest author for the series!

I'm one of those people who doesn't have a favorite anything. Just a habit of mine of not picking one thing that I must have over and over.  When the question of favorite book that I find erotic was posed, I immediately thought of Anne Rice's Beauty Trilogy (The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, Beauty's Punishment, Beauty's Release)  http://amzn.com/0452281423  http://amzn.com/0452281431 http://amzn.com/0452281458
I discovered this particular series when searching for other erotic fairy tales, which I enjoy reading often.  Many historically filter out the erotic edge for children's sake, and I wanted to read about all the darkness hidden under the light.
The premise of the story is that Prince rouses Sleeping Beauty from her 100 year slumber.  It varies from the traditional Fairy Tale in that the Prince awakens her with sex, initiating her into a world where Princes and Princesses from other kingdoms are sent into sexual slavery during a period of their youth.  The royalty of the individual kingdoms encourage it and feel like it is important.
What I enjoyed about the series is the way it made me think about a taboo subject.  Anne Rice took forced submission, non-consensual sex in essence, and made me think about how the mind begins to change and accept things it normally wouldn't. To go from rebelling against being bound, sodomized, pleasuring your master and being punished if you don't, to enjoying it and craving more of it was fascinating to me.
I also enjoyed Beauty as a character because she evolved from a weak woman, in my eyes, to one in control of her awakened sexual desires.  She blossomed from beginning to end, and I felt like I blossomed with her. While I think sexual slavery is wrong in every capacity, I liked that the frank look at sex made me examine my need for and love of sex.
Allowing a sexually traumatic situation to empower you in the end is huge!  Plus the scenes written to demonstrate how they forced people to submit were so intensely erotic it had me squirming in my chair. One I loved is after Beauty's dismissal from the castle; they send her to the village in a cart to be used by the villagers.   She clings to a man and they have sex standing up in the cart.
I ended up writing a story on the topic, it moved me so much.  How interesting is the mind and how we handle pain, transforming it into pleasure.
This book not only aroused me, it made me think.
Bio info:

Chantel C is a 20-something from the East coast. She inherited her voracious appetite for reading from her mother, who is still known to only pull her nose out of a book if one of her children screamed fire. For Chantel, writing started simply as a way to capture every thought in her journal, and slowly evolved into a desire to share the romantic and slightly deviant stories from her imagination. Even if real life is limiting, fiction knows no bounds. It's that need to step out of boundaries and into unknown possibilities that makes writing so attractive. Her philosophy is even if it comes out a little off; at least her creativity is being expressed. Chantel interacts daily with people in the realm of teaching, which only encourages her need to tell outrageous stories. She draws inspiration from her travels and her perpetually single state.
